TWENTY THREE LIONS is a band that will fight to the death to hold onto the dying spirit of the early and mid 90's. A time when such bands as Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins to The Verve and The Flaming Lips showed the world what meant to have not only great songs, but an ethos that reflected the sincerity and passion for the music they were making.
The record OVERCOME is a result of three years of writing, recording, and live shows, - along with 2 births, a heavy loss, and a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. Long days and late nights were spent in a small studio in the South Bay of Los Angeles, and over that time, the members of the band went through dozens of songs, finally settling on these.
TWENTY THREE LIONS is comprised of 4 band members (Miles, Paul Duncan, Paul Bessenbacher, and Davey Latter), but Miles is the leader and creative force behind the project. Miles is a former member of the band For Love Not Lisa, a band that exploded onto the scene in the early nineties, recording two records for Atlantic/Elektra Records. FLNL's song, "Slip Slide Melting," also appeared in the platinum-selling soundtrack to the film "The Crow" starring Brandon Lee.
After For Love Not Lisa disbanded, Miles joined Puller (Tooth and Nail Records). Puller turned the unfurnished east Hollywood Hills home of singer Mike Lewis into a recording studio where Lewis and Miles produced and engineered the record "Closer Than You Think" with engineer Andrew Alekel.
Not merely content to be a guitarist and songwriter, Miles branched out into the world of production and engineering, working with bands such as The Lost and Found (Status Recordings) and veteran L.A. punk band Instigator. And as if all that weren't enough to keep one man busy, Miles has put together yet another band, The Echo Division, which has already secured a record label contract and is preparing songs for their debut album, set for national release in 2006.
